The Ethiopian Accreditation Service announced plans to begin accrediting the general services of medical institutions. This move aims to build quality infrastructure and increase trust in Ethiopian products and services.
The Ethiopian Revenues and Customs Authority is to introduce what is known as a ‘customer charter’ designed to ensure better services for taxpayers.
The charter introduced by the authority at a discussion with taxpayers and other stakeholders at the Addis Ababa, Ghion Hotel details 28 major services and specifies time frames for service delivery.
Some of the services detailed and the time frame allotted to them include tax payer registration expected to take no more than 10 to 30 minutes, closing a business should take no more than 30 minutes, help with operating a cash register machine, 5 to 20 minutes, duty free privilege service no more than 2 days and clearance services 30 minutes according to the charter.Ethiopia is to introduce a new customs proclamation designed to ease and modernize the custom processes in the country.
The Ethiopian Revenue and Custom Authority has already finalized the work required to amend the custom laws in an effort to simplify customs procedures according to Melaku Fenta, Director General of the Authority.
The amendment will be put before the Council of Ministers and the Parliament soon for final approval he said.
It is expected that new law will introduce structural adjustments in how the authority functions and in human resource management.

A new computer program designed by Indian tech firm, The Center for Development of Advance Computing, is expected to transform the way the tax authority assesses tax according to sources.
The new system will set prices for imported goods on the basis of transaction costs which will be a better alternative to the not so successfully program currently being used by ERCA to avoid under invoicing. The pilot for the new system will be launched this month according to ERCA officials.
