Ethiopia to Import Sugar from AgroCorp
The Ethiopian Sugar Corporation had awarded an Indian based Company called AgroCorp International PTE LTD the bid to provide 75,000 tons of sugar, according to Addis Fortune.
Ethiopia to Impose 150% Tax on Crust Export
A 150% tax will be imposed on the export of semi-finished leather from Ethiopia as of this month according to the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development. The move is expected to encourage the export of finished leather and leather products.
The new tax was announced by a joint statement of the MoFED and the Leather Industry Development Institute.
Ethiopia to Improve Access and Quality of ICT
The Ethiopian government announced plans to improve access and quality of Information and Communication Technology in the country.
The announcement was made in Addis Ababa on the 11th of December by Dr. Debretsion Gebremichael, Deputy Prime Minister at the 2nd annual conference of Ethiopian ICT Entrepreneurship held this week.
The government is working hard to expand the ICT infrastructure in the country he explained in his speech.
Ethiopia to Improve Cotton Quality
Ethiopia is working towards improving the quality of cotton used as a main raw material in textile sectors according to the Ministry of Agriculture.
A training was launched in Benshangul Gumuz Regional state for investors engaged in cotton development with this end in mind.
There are currently investors and organized farmers developing cotton on 124,000 hectares and the ministry aims to address challenges including shortage of expertise, capital, chemical, selected seeds and other materials said Haile-Mariam Kibret, Agro-investment Support with the MoA.
Ethiopia to Improve Minerals Quality and Quantity
Ethiopia will be trying to improve its minerals quality as well as their quantity. This was said by Ministry of Mines on Wednesday, April 23, 2014 when discussing the Growth and Transformation Plan - Two (GTP-2).
