Ethiopia Targets USD 8 Billion in Remittances for 2025/26

The Ethiopian government has set a target of USD 8 billion in remittances from its diaspora community during the 2025/26 fiscal year, building on efforts to expand remittance channels and strengthen economic diplomacy.

Ethiopia will be self-sufficient in wheat production and will no longer need to import the crop soon, the Ethiopian Ministry of Agriculture announced. This is pursuant to wheat irrigation projects carried out in the Amhara and Oromia regions.
Ethiopia's Ministry of Finance announced that it has decided to allow the import of basic food items on a Franco Valuta basis, without requiring any foreign exchange permits. The items include cooking oil, wheat, sugar, milk, and rice.
