The Ethiopian government will be importing over 400,000 tons of wheat to help address the high rate of inflation, senior economic advisor to the Ethiopian Prime Minister said.
In the past five months Ethiopia imported over 3,000 tons of cotton in order to meet the local raw material demand for textile industries. This was disclosed by the Textile Industry Development Institute (TIDI).
The Ethiopian Public Procurement and Disposal Agency (PPDA) announced that it had bought 400,000 tonnes of ordinary Portland cement for 34.6 million dollars from D.G Khan Company Limited (DGKCC) of Pakistan and Global Africa of Israel.
According to the agency, the first shipment of 150,000 tonnes of cement is due to arrive in two weeks time.
The cement is to be used for the construction of housing projects in Addis Ababa, new sugar factories and roads, Yigezu Daba, director general of the Public Procurement & Property Disposal Service at the agency, said.
The Ethiopian Coffee and Tea Authority (ECTA) has introduced a new directive raising capital requirements for coffee exporters, aiming to curb illegal practices and professionalize the sector.
Ethiopia was placed in the bottom five countries on the World Wide Web Foundation’s Web Index according to a survey 
which ranked 61 countries on a range of criteria including the number of people online and the amount of useful content available.
The Index measures the economic, political and social impact the Internet has made on the countries.
The survey was intended to fill a need for uniform and publicly available date comparing countries and identifying areas for improvement according to Tim Berners-Lee, the inventor of the World Wide Web.
The most basic question asked if people were actually connected and if they had hardware to access the web he said.
