Venora Lanka Power Panels (Pvt.) Ltd., which works with world renowned brands such as Schneider Electric, ABB, Forend and Rexton and which is in partnership with two local companies in Ethiopia, namely, Eulogia Electromechanical PLC and Horra Trading PLC, launched its products in the Ethiopian market.
Visa Inc., which is piloting Ethiopia's first international debit card, is seeking to convince the government to loosen strickt restrictions on banks in an effort to boost the use of electronic payments, Reuters reported.
Vitol Group, a multinational energy and commodities trading company, has won the tender floated by the Ethiopian Petroleum Supply Enterprise (EPSE) for the supply of fuel to Ethiopia in 2016, according to The Reporter.
Vodacom’s CEO Shameel Joosub said Vodacom was considering entering Ethiopia with Safaricom, its Kenyan associate company. The CEO said Ethiopia was “probably the most attractive” potential new market for Vodacom.
“But the opportunities are not that clear yet — there are indications that Ethiopia will issue additional licenses, and potentially take in a strategic partner for the existing [government-owned] Ethio Telecom, but there’s nothing yet in terms of actual processes and so on,” the CEO said.
South Africa's Vodacom Group opened its first office in Ethiopia on Tuesday, to establish its presence in a country which have a large market but still maintains a state monopoly over its telecoms sector, Reuters reported.
Ethiopia's state owned Ethio Telecom have a rapidly growing subscribers, totaling almost 650 million last year, up from just 25 million in 2001, according to the World Bank.
