Ethiopia hosts a large number of International Organisations and Missions such as the UN, AU, EU; foreign diplomatic missions; and NGO's such as GIZ, MSF, ICRC, etc. These organisations and missions float tenders/bids or invite expression of interests (EOI's). The tenders or EOI's can be local or international. Some of them also post their purchase requirements. 2merkato posts tenders/bids/EOI's in Ethiopia from all newspapers, from all regions, direct postings by organizations, exclusive postings, etc; local and international tenders/bids are updated daily. Even though the organisations and missions may differ in their requirements from Government offices, there are some guidelines every vendor should follow. We've written the guidelines below.

Vendor Registration

      • A vendor should be registered on the UNGM website if it is to work with organisations in the UN - https://www.ungm.org/. Other organisations/missions also have some kind of registration systems and the vendor is advised to contact the procurement departments of the respective organisations and register in the system. Registering as a vendor is important because sometimes these organisations may contact a list of suppliers without posting their requirements on public media.

Required Documents

These documents are necessary:

        • Commercial Registration Certificate
        • Renewed business license for the budget year;
        • Taxpayers Identification Number (TIN) Certificate;
        • Value Added Tax Registration Certificate (sometimes your line of business such as Pharmaceutical Business may not require VAT registration);

These documents are important:

        • Recommendation Letters
        • Proficiency/Competency Certificate
        • A list of references who can testify well about your services/credentials

Presentation and Communication

While responding to an invitation by these organisations to participate in tenders or EOI's and in all other communications, you need to present yourself well.

        • When you are communicating by letter, you have to use a letter head, with your official address clearly marked and signature and stamp necessary as well.
        • When you are sending emails, you should put professional looking email signature as per your closing statement. If you're to attach a letter or a quotation, do not forger to use a letterheaded paper, with stamp and signature.
        • Email Signature should have your name, title, company Name, address, phone numbers, mobile no, email address and website (if available)

        • Email Address: it is professional if you have an email address bearing your company domain. For example, for 2merkato we have email addresses such as This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. . In case you do not have a domain name that bears your company's name, you can use Gmail. Gmail is considered more professional to use for a company address than Yahoo in the industry. And when you use Gmail, your email ID should have your full name or your company name. Eg: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. , This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. . Addresses such as This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. ; This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. are not considered professional.

Correct English

You have to use correct English while communicating with International organisations. Please be careful and avoid spelling mistakes and grammatical mistakes.

Details
Category: ICT and Telecom

Hewlett Packard (HP) launched this week a Toner Cartridge Authentication (TCA) program to help customers confirm the purchase of original HP toner cartridges.

The new technology works on select HP LaserJet printers such as HP Colour LaserJet Pro CP5225 Series, HP LaserJet Pro M1530 MFP Series, HP LaserJet Pro P1100 Series, HP LaserJet Pro P1560 Series and HP LaserJet Pro P1600 Series.
