The Ethiopian Government Housing Agency cancelled the contracts of 643 tenants in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia who subleased their rental property to third parties against their contract with the Agency.

The Agency cancelled the contracts following a directive issued in October penalizing tenants who have sublet commercial properties owned by the government. The directive also penalized tenants who were utilizing residential property for commercial purposes.

The Ethiopian Revenues and customs Authority (ERCA) announced that the government invested 191 billion birr that could have been obtained from tax and duties to encourage investors in the past five years, Fana Broadcasting Corporate reported.

As part of the effort to ease the impact of COVID-19 on the investment sector, the Ethiopian government has made available three major incentives for investors operating inside Industrial Parks. 

Ethiopian government is planning a new regulation for livestock, animal hides and skins trading. The Ministry of Trade has created a new office focusing on livestock resource development, including breeding and veterinary issues.

“The marketing chain is very long. It is not led by the market, but by middlemen with five or more marketing chains,” said Kelifa Hussien, Director of the Live Animal, Hide and Skin Marketing Directorate.

Diriba Kuma, Mayor of Addis Ababa, states that the Addis Ababa City Administration will begin constructing houses for rent to Civil Servants and Low-income Dwellers of the city in the current Ethiopian fiscal year, the Daily Monitor reported.
