The Ethiopian Development Bank has turned around its fortunes in recent years, thanks to a series of reform measures that have helped the bank overcome bankruptcy and become profitable.

The Ethiopian Diaspora Association is set to hold a Diaspora mobilizing conference on investment with a view to encouraging the Ethiopian Diaspora to participate in industry, hotel and tourism, and other areas. More than 1000 people are expected to participate in the conference which is organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Ethiopian Customs and Revenue Authority, and the Ethiopian Investment Commission.

Ethiopian Customs Commission announced that Ethiopian diaspora coming home can bring into their country personal items without having to pay customs duty.

The 8th round of the Ethiopian Diaspora Business Forum and the 2013 Pioneer Diaspora Awards Luncheon, is scheduled to be held in Washington DC, on July 27, 2013.

This years event will focus on investment opportunities in agri-business, agro-processing and financing and value chain development opportunities in select sub-sectors for Diaspora Investors, according to the organizers.

The Office of the Prime Minister announced that Ethiopian Diaspora Trust Fund had officially begun receiving contribution. Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed said the lives of the most vulnerable Ethiopians can significantly be improved if Diaspora Ethiopians could contribute at least 1USD a day.
