When announcing the news at the opening of Addis Power International Electric, Electronics & Lighting Exhibition last week, the minister of water, Irrigation and Electricity Seleshi Bekele (PhD), said “Ethiopia needs a sustainable and reliable energy source with an affordable price. …. The investment should also consider climate change and the green economy.”
The country is currently working on generating 9,000MW of power from the Grand Renaissance Dam and other sources. The government is also planning on adding 21 new projects with the capacity to produce 6000MW a year.
