Micro and Small Enterprises Earn $15 Million in Ethiopia

Micro and small enterprises have earned more than 15 million US dollars on the international market in the last nine months according to the Federal Micro and Small Enterprise Development Agency.

A range of exports produced by small enterprises including textiles and handicrafts have been able to meet international standards set by foreign markets said Assefa Ferede, Director of the Public Relations and Communications Directorate with the agency.

All regional bodies are working together to identify and register enterprises that have the capacity to export to the foreign markets while the agency is working towards creating networks with various embassies to promote their products in foreign markets he said.

More than 2.2 billion birr on the local market to support 430,896 operators in the same period accomplishing 67% of the agency’s target said Assefa.

More than 394,579 people have been able to launch their own businesses through the one stop service centers while large government projects such as rural road projects, sugar factories, universities, construction and water supply have opened employment opportunities for 148,058 people explained Assefa.  

The agency has offered a range of trainings to 126,632 operators to fill gaps in technical skills and 713,846 people have been trained in business management while the agency also gave motivational plasma based tutorials he noted.
