Ethiopian Airports Enterprise Finalizing Expansion and Upgrading Projects

Ethiopian Airports Enterprise is finalizing expansion and upgrading works of its facilities at several locations. Upgrading works at the Bole International Airport, the largest project consuming a total of 1.2 billion Ethiopian birr, will be completed in the coming few months,according to Wondim Teklu, Public Relations Head with the Enterprise.

The Enterprise awarded the project to the Chinese, Road and Building Construction Company (CRBC) and Transport Construction Design Share Company (TCD) as consultant for the project.

The project was started in December 2010, The EAE expects the Airport’s airplane handling capacity to rise to 44 from the present 19 after the completion of the expansion projects.

The EAE is also completing upgrading works for the Jimma Aba Jifar Airport runway and taxiway. Varnero Construction PLC is contracted for the project which commenced in January 24, 2009.

After the completion of the upgrading, Once the airport's  runway will have the capacity to  handle airplanes as large as the Boeing 767.

Expansion works on passenger terminals of Jimma Aba Jifar Airport and the Ginbot 20 Bahir Dar International Airport and cold store is also being finalized. The Enterprise expect the inauguration of the facilities in July.
