“Dine with Ethiopia’s PM for 5 Million Birr” for Addis’s River Banks Face-lift

dine-with-abiyThe Office of the Prime Minister has made a call to benefactors of means to feast on a "5 million birr dinner" with Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, announcing the contribution will be used in the project to make Ethiopia’s capital Addis Ababa greener, cleaner, healthier and more sustainable.

Prime Minister Abiy started a three-year initiative, dubbed “Beautifying Sheger Project,” which will run along Addis’s rivers and develop green spaces along the 56-kilometer long river banks. This fund-raiser call is to support this project.

In a tweet, the PM’s Office said:
“To all business owners, company CEOs, int'l org. heads & members of the diplomatic community, we invite you to email your contact information to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. to submit your interest in registering for the 'Dine for Sheger' event.”

The PM’s Office further stated, once realized, this “grand vision… will make the city competitive in changing the livelihood of its residents, revive the city’s economy, boost urban tourism and increase real estate value of project site properties.” It was further noted that a dinner program with the Prime Minister is being organized to commemorate the project’s launch.

The 5 million birr, apparently is not only for dining with the prime minister. You also get a plaque with your name on it at a location along the 56 km long project route, once completed; and a private photo-op with PM Abiy, to be compiled into a photo album of “individuals who changed the face of Addis Ababa.”
