Commissioner Debele Qabeta (PhD) said the commission had planned to collect Birr 598.91 billion during the period as part of efforts to strengthen Ethiopia’s domestic revenue generation capacity.

According to the commissioner, the target was surpassed through stronger support and monitoring systems, faster and more efficient service delivery, improved coordination, and intensified measures against smuggling and illegal trade.

The ten month revenue performance was also 75.29 percent higher than the amount collected during the same period of the previous fiscal year.

The commission attributed the improved performance to capacity building efforts for leaders and professionals, regular quarterly reviews, and closer follow up of revenue collection activities.

Random inspections also helped identify documents that resulted in the recovery of Birr 2.864 billion, which was converted into government revenue.

In addition to revenue collection, the commission reported that more than Birr 279.855 billion was saved through efforts to prevent illegal trade, fraud, and smuggling. These activities involved community participation, strengthened internal capacity, and coordination with key stakeholders.

Compared with the same period last year, the amount saved represented a 54.86 percent increase, according to the commission.
