Machines required for the project have not entered Ethiopia yet but the factory is in the process of acquisition said Endalkachew.

The next step of the project after machines for the factory have been acquired is to erect the plant with more than 60% of the construction project on the sugar factory completed so far he explained.

The Tendaho factory will have an estimated output of 600,000 tons of sugar every year with 50% of the product expected to be for export.

The factory is expected to put Ethiopia in the number one place for sugar cane crushing capacity when it becomes fully operational according to officials with the project.

The project established in Afar Regional State has the capacity to crush 26,000 tons of sugar daily when fully operational said sources.

The factory will be able to crush 13,000 tons of sugar cane in the first phase of the project.
