Google organized the first ever g|Ethiopia this week. The event was intended to bring together software developers and other parties in the Information Technology sector to strengthen their application of Google products.

G|Ethiopia was held at this time because of the growth experienced by the country and the increased use of Google services like G-mail in Ethiopia.

The two day event was held at the Addis Ababa Hilton hotel with organizers offering overviews on how Google products can be put to use in the African context, with a special emphasis on access to the internet.

The presentations concentrated on various innovative tools that local software developers can adopt to make use of the online services offered by Google.

A key note presentation dealt with ways to overcome a range of challenges that limit the use of the internet in Africa. Google and others have taken various measures including working with universities to set up wireless connections and reducing the time and size associated with fetching data.

The event also offered business people a chance to become acquainted with how to make use of Google services like, Google Maps and Google+ in business.

Google organizes events like this, known as G-day, across the world.
