At the expo, Ethiopia was represented by a delegation from the Ethiopian embassy at Beijing. The expo hopes to nurture commercial partnerships among key stakeholders in the global coffee industry, it was reported. The Ethiopian delegation shared the experience of Ethiopia’s organic, high quality and varieties of coffee that are consistently embedded in the identity of its people to attendees of the official opening of the expo, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Ethiopia, being home for the much desirable varieties of Arabica coffee, will find it easy to penetrate the Chinese specialty coffee market, the Ministry noted. At the occasion, the delegation has described Ethiopia’s efforts in improving traceability of coffee beans and transparency on business returns to coffee growers.

At the sideline of the Expo, the Ethiopian delegation met with the municipal leadership of the People’s Government of Pu’re city and the Yunnan International Coffee Exchange (YICE), and it has been reported that the discussion was fruitful on exploring “the way forward for cooperation in coffee industry spheres.”

Over a thousand participants from all over the globe took part in the Pu’er Expo, including coffee industry experts, producers, roasters, importers, exporters, and industry associations. China has a rapidly growing coffee market as it sees a significant upscale shift in coffee consumption.
