Ethiopian Receives New Cargo B737-800 Freighter

ethiopian-b737-800Ethiopian Airlines’ Cargo and Logistics Services received its first Boeing 737-800 freighter. Tewolde Gebremariam, Ethiopian’s Group CEO, speaking as his airlines received the new cargo freighter, said his company is excited to obtain the new freighter “a few days after being crowned with ‘African Cargo Airline of the Year’ and ‘Air Cargo Brand of the Year in Africa’ Awards for the fourth year in a row.”

“The arrival of this new freighter is a significant addition and propels both our capacity and frequency,” Mr. Tewolde remarked.

“The B737-800 Freighter will give us a new capability to serve short haul destinations in African and the Middle East more economically which includes the export of Ethiopian meat, fruits and vegetables to the Gulf Region,” he added.

Mr. Tewolde also said Ethiopian will keep introducing new systems and technologies and play “an indispensable role” to the socio-economic development of Ethiopia and Africa at large, in accordance with their strategic roadmap, Vision 2025.

This new addition to Ethiopian Cargo and Logistics Services is a ninth to a fleet of other types of cargo freighters. The B737-800 has a payload capacity of over 23 metric tons and is endowed with excellent operating economics to maximize efficiency for cargo operations.

Equipped with ten state-of-the-art dedicated freighters and Africa’s largest transshipment terminal, Ethiopian Cargo and logistics Services gives services spanning 44 international destinations across Africa, Gulf, the Middle East, Asia, Europe and the Americas.

Ethiopian Cargo and Logistics Services envisions to become a full-fledged profit center of Ethiopian Airlines Group with annual revenue of US$ 2bn, 19 dedicated aircraft, annual tonnage of 820,000, and 57 international destinations by 2025.
