Ethiopia: GSE Identified 21 Mineral Deposits

Geological Survey of Ethiopia (GSE) has disclosed in the last fiscal year, it has identified 21 mineral deposits scattered across the country.

According the Director General of GSE, Masresha Gebre-Selassie, the performance was below the target set, identifying 32 mineral deposits.

From the 21 mineral deposits, 9 were sedimentary gold reserves found in Benishangul Gumuz State, Masrersha explained. There were also 4 industry minerals and 3 gemstone deposits in Dire Dawa City while 4 metallic deposits were identified in Tigray State, he added. 1 coal deposit was located in Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples State, the Director General added.

Recent studies have revealed Ethiopia is blessed with wide varieties of mineral in the country. In specific there is said to be a huge gold potential in Ethiopia.

For the current fiscal year, GSE intends to identify 41 additional mineral deposits by the end of the year.
