Ethiopia: 12 Construction Companies Competing for Hospital Construction

12 construction companies are competing against one another for attender floated for the construction of 3 general hospitals in Ethiopia’s capital. The tender is said to be worth 3.6 billion Birr.

The companies interested in the tender are both local and international. The number seems to be equal between the local contractors and their foreign counter parts.

Public Procurement and Property Disposal Service floated the tender for the construction of 3 hospitals across Addis Ababa. The first hospital is in Bile Sub-City and it managed to attract 4 companies; Afro Tsion Construction, Flintstone Engineering and two other companies from China – China Communications Construction Company (CCCC) and China Geology Corporation Overseas Construction Group (CGCOCG). The hospital is planned to be constructed in the CMC area and it will be 8 story building lying on 31,000 square meters.

The second hospital, on the other is said to be built in Nifas Silk Lafto Sub City and it will lie on 25,700 square meters. The project has attracted 5 companies; Yirgalem Construction Plc, TACON Construction, China Railway NO3 Engineering Group, Alemayehu Ketema General Contractors and Matta Et Associates Sal.
The third company is going to be in Kolfe Keranyo Subcity over 32,000 square meters of land. This project attracted the interest of 3 companies namely; Satcon Construction, Shapoorji Balaji Middle East LLC and China Wu Yi Ltd.

Bidders are expected to submit bid security, which is 500,000 Birr per plot.
