Ethiopian Roads Authority (ERA) disclosed it will start to construct as well as upgrade 58 road projects. The Authority will start undertaking the projects this month and it will be done at a cost of 45 Billion Birr.

The 58 road projects will stretch for a total of 3,171 kilometers. They will be carried out in 6 different states; Oromia, Amhara, Southern Nations, Nationalities & Peoples’, Tigray, Afar and Gambella states.

According to Dereje Hailu, Communication Director at ERA, around 35 billion Birr will be covered by the government budget while the rest will be obtained from development finance lenders.

Agreements have already been signed with contractors to commence the construction of the road projects. The projects are expected to be completed in the 3 years time.

The roads are expected to connect rural areas and help farmers easily market agricultural products and improve other social services such as health..

At the moment, ERA is building 14,706 kilometers asphalt road projects in various parts of the country.
