Ethiopia: Construction of Nekemte Airport Started

Ethiopia has started to construct new airport for an estimated cost of 748 million Birr and dubbed it Nekemete Airport. The foundation stone for the construction of the airport was laid 2 years back.

The airport is being constructed at a place known as Uke found 32 kilometers far from Nekemte City, Oromia State. The construction was scheduled to be finalized and went operational in 2 years time, Maru Gizaw, representative of the project’s manager, said.

When it goes operational the airport is said to be able to handle 4 airplanes at once.

Commenting on the matter, Wondim Teklu, head of communication affairs at the Ethiopian Airports Enterprise, said the construction of the airport would have a significant contribution for the socio-economic activities of the region.
