Ethiopia and Saudi Signed Workers Recruitment Agreement

The long awaited domestic workers recruitment agreement was signed yesterday, May 25, 2017, between Ethiopia and Saudi Arabia. The agreement was signed in Jeddah. The agreement aims at protecting Ethiopian house maids.

Both Ethiopia and Saudi were represented by their respective Labour and Social Affairs ministers.

The agreement stipulates Ethiopians will be able to work in Saudi only after concluding the necessary deal with employment agencies that are required to be licensed in both jurisdictions.

In related news, Ethiopia’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu, met with his Saudi counterpart, Adil Aljuber, and discussed on the repatriation of Ethiopians.

It was to see the progress of the repatriation of undocumented Ethiopian living in Saudi that Workneh went to the Middle Eastern nation.
