Ethiopia: Saint Gabriel Hospital Shut Down

Saint Gabriel General Hospital, one of the private hospitals in Ethiopia, has been shut down by the Addis Ababa Food, Medicine and Healthcare Administration and Control Authority.

According to Capital, the reason behind the shutdown of the place is still not clear. The weekly newspaper’s also read its efforts to speak with Alemtsheay Paulos, Deputy Director at the Authority, to understand the reason behind the Saint Gabriel Hospital closure was unsuccessful.

It was back in 1995 that Saint Gabriel Hospital started operating introducing many technological innovations to the country. The hospital is said serve around 21,000 people every year.

In a related development, the Authority disclosed it has shut down 82 health centersin the last 6 months for hiring unprofessional workers, selling expired drugs, distorting and not registering medical data.

The shutdown is said to have affected small clinics to general hospitals. In addition to this, the license of 1 doctor and 2 clinics have been revoked.
