Ethio Telecom, Ethiopia’s telecom monopole, disclosed the number of mobile subscribers reached 53 million. The figure shows an 11 percent increase when compared to the previous fiscal year’s.
The public enterprise also disclosed it has made 12 billion Birr during the first 6 months of the current fiscal year. This also shows an increase when compared to the same period in the past fiscal year. The income generated has increase in 17 percent. This achievement was made despite the internet blockage that took place for months.
Out of the total subscribers, a quarter of them use internet and data. Nevertheless, out of the entire mobile subscribers, the number of smart phone users is below 5 percent.
Ethio Telecom intends to earn billion Birr during this fiscal year and take the number of subscribers to 64 million.
