The initiative falls in line with Dubai Chamber’s strategy to explore promising markets in Africa and make economic inroads in the lucrative investment areas within the continent. The Chamber has previously hosted a number of Global Business Forum events focusing on investment opportunities in Africa, and plans to launch the next edition next year.

In 2013, the Dubai Chamber launched its office in Ethiopia in order to establish a platform for discussing areas of mutual interest as well as the identification of potential joint ventures while allowing Dubai Chamber to further explore the country’s diverse and expanding business sectors.

As the second-most populous country in Sub-Saharan Africa, with a strong and broad based economic growth, a growing middle class, increasing urbanization and political stability, Ethiopia has been an important trade partner for the Dubai Chamber since it opened its office in Addis Ababa in 2013. The favourable investment climate and the growing middle class in Ethiopia, have been the main factors for the need to further stimulate demand for non-commodity investment from the Gulf in sectors such as retail, automotive, commercial banking, tourism, oil production, private healthcare and education, among others.

The Forum in Ethiopia will be held at the Sheraton Addis from October 6th to 7th in partnership with the Addis Ababa Chamber of Commerce and Sectoral Associations (AACCSA). The 2-day forum activities will include private sector focus groups, local business laws briefing, Chamber to Chamber dialogue, public sector roundtable discussions as well as meetings with Ethiopian government representatives.

A leading chamber of commerce in the Middle East, Dubai Chamber aims to strengthen the cooperation between Dubai’s public and private sectors and has established 27 sector-specific business groups and 49 country-specific business councils to enhance communication with all sections of the business community.

The Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry provides a range of value-added services to its members and the wider business community, including issuing certificates of origin, ATA Carnets, conducting business research and advocacy, offering mediation, arbitration and credit rating services, receiving and organizing trade missions, participating in trade exhibitions and organizing entrepreneurial training courses and workshops.
