Ethiopian Railways Corporation (ERC) disclosed around 30 passenger locomotives have arrived at Endobi Station, which is along the Ethio-Djibouti railway line. The locomotives are said to have the capacity to travel up to 120 kilometers per hour and carry from 113 – 168 passengers at a time.

The 30 locomotives can transport more than 3,000 passengers at once. In addition to being built for comfort and wellbeing, the locomotives incorporate different facilities such as beds, kitchen and VIP sections.

According to Dereje Tefera, Public Relations and Communication Section Director at ERC, from the 1000 passenger and freight locomotives the Corporation order, it has taken delivery of most of them.

Other than the passenger locomotives, ERC has readied freight locomotives that has the capacity of carrying 3500 tons. The freight locomotives will transport goods and live animals down the Ethio-Djibouti line.
