Ethiopia: Kebri Dehar International Airport Inaugurated

Ethiopia inaugurated new international airport which it dubbed Kebri Dehar International Airport and built in Somali State at an outlay of 500 million Birr.

Debretsion Gebremichael, Deputy Prime Minister for Finance and Economic Cluster and Minister of Communication and Information Technology, Workneh Gebeyehu, Minister of Transport, and Abdi Mohammed, Chief Administrator of Somali State, inaugurated the airport on June 4, 2016.

Speaking on the event Debretsion said “The airport is a development project which was achieved by the sacrifice paid by residents of the regional state”. "It is also part of Ethiopia’s plan to improve the aviation industry in the second Growth and Transformation Plan (GTP II) period."

According to Wondim Teklu, Public Relations Director at the Ethiopian Airports Enterprise (EAE), the newly inaugurated airport can accommodate modern jet airplane including Boeing 737.

Chief Administrator of Somali on his part noted the airport would improve investment and tourist flow to the state.
