Ethiopia: EEP Concluded 1.2 Billion Birr Deal

Ethiopian Electric Power (EEP) concluded a 1.2 billion Birr agreement with Larsen Arsen & Toubro Limited, an Indian company, for capacity improvement and expansion project at power distribution stations. The main aim of the expansion project is avoiding power interruptions.

85 percent of the cost is financed by a loan secured from French Development Agency while the rest 15 percent will be covered by the Ethiopian government.

The expansion project is going to increase different power stations’ capacity. As per the agreement, Bishoftu power station’s capacity will be boosted to 400 KV while Ginchi and Dukem distribution centers will rise to 230 KV.

Azeb Asnake, CEO of EEP, noted the project would enable EEP to provide sufficient power to industries and railway lines as the expansion will be carried out in close proximity to them. The expansion project will help avoid power interruptions, she added.

The CEO also furthered the Indian firm would execute the expansion project on time.

Rahul Saka, Larsen Arsen & Toubro Limited Africa General Manager, pledged on his part to use state of the art technology and finalize the project as per planned.
