Railway Coverage Will Connect Ethiopia to Neighboring Countries by 2025

Ethiopian President Mulatu Teshome said the country’s railway coverage will reach 5,000 km by 2025, Ethiopian News Agency reported.

Mulatu said this while discussing with Turkish delegates from Yapi Merkezi Construction Company that undertakes the construction of Awash-Woldiya Railway project.

The president in the discussion noted that the country’s railway coverage would link Ethiopia with Djibouti, Kenya, Sudan and South Sudan.

It was indicated the Awash-Woldiya railway project is being constructed at a cost of USD 1.6 billion.

Murat Hasim Koksal, General Manager of Yapi Merkezi Construction Company, said 25 percent of the 370 km railway project is completed.

Turkey is the third country that has huge FDI in Ethiopia.
