Ethiopia Willing to Host IEEE Branch Office in Addis Ababa

Ethiopia is willing to host Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) branch office in Addis Ababa, according to its communication technology minister.

Dr. Debretsion Gebremichael, Minister of Information and Communication Technology, in an interview with ENA said IEEE’s branch office in Addis Ababa will help Ethiopia acquire lessons on ICT.

Ethiopia is committed to work in partnership with IEEE to facilitate transfer of technology, Dr. Debretsion said.

In the GTP II period Ethiopia needs more technology and skills to enhance its ICT sector, the Minister added.

Dr. Engineer Dereje Hailemariam Assistant Professor at the Addis Ababa Technology Institute Electrical and Computer Engineering Department cited different research works undertaken by IEEE.

According to the Assistant Professor, IEEE has received global recognition on ICT related works WIFI, mobile connection, mobile data communication standards and others.

IEEE members have shown interest in opening branch office in Addis Ababa in a recent meeting held in Addis Ababa.

IEEE is a professional association which was formed in 1963. Its corporate office is in New York City, U.S.A. It is the world’s largest professional association for the advancement of technology.
