METEC Targeting on Production Rather Than Assembly in GTP II

metecThe Metal and Engineering Corporation (METEC) of Ethiopia has announced it will focus on the establishment of basic factories than assembling spare parts in GTP II period.

Sisay Seid, Head of Operative Planning and Control at METEC, said to enhance Ethiopia’s engineering and manufacturing sector, METEC determines to establish national industrial bases.

Sisay explaining about the Corporation’s accomplishment in GTP I and its plan for GTP II to stakeholders of metal and engineering sub-sector at Ghion Hotel said “unlike what we did in the GTP I, assembling buses, our plan for GTP II is to establish bus manufacturing plant.”

METEC has targeted to establish 10 bus manufacturing plants in various regions of Ethiopia during GTP II period, Sisay underscored.

In addition, METEC has planned to design, manufacture and install 2,500 to 2750 agro processing plants in nine Regional States and the two City Administrations of Ethiopia, said Sisay in his presentation.

METEC currently owns over 90 manufacturing, basic metal, power engineering, plastic, high-tech, ammunition, aviation and locomotive factories.
