Ethiopia: Africa-Japan Business Investment Forum Opens in Addis Ababa

The second Africa-Japan Business Investment Forum which aims at solidifying business ties between Africa and Japanese launched Monday, August 31, 2015, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailmariam Desalegn opened the Forum with a remarking speech, according to Ethiopian News Agency.

This is the first time for Africa to host Africa-Japan Business Forum. The Forum’s discussion centers on key investment sectors such as infrastructure, finance, agri-business, commodities, energy, logistics and technology.

The establishment of the first Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) in 1993 turned the stance of economic relationship between Japan and Africa.

As of today, the trade magnitude between Japan and Africa is valued at 25 US dollars.

Of the total 4.2 billion dollars project funds that Asian nations invested in Africa in 2014, 3.5 billion dollars belongs to Japanese investors.

Kazuyuki Nakana, Japan Parliamentary Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs, said the form will boost economic cooperation between Africa and Japan.
