Ministry of Mines and Energy said over 59.6 million liters of ethanol has been blended with benzene in the last five years.

Alemayehu Tegenu, Minister of Water, Irrigation and Energy said the intervention saved Ethiopia 46.9 million USD from oil purchase.

Starting from 2009, Ethiopia has been blending ethanol with benzene with five percent ethanol content and later with 10 percent.

Nile, Oil Libya and National Oil Company (NOC) are blending benzene with ethanol provided by Metehara and Fincha sugar factories.
