Ethiopia: NBE Approves Dashen’s Asfaw Alemu as President

dashen-bankNational Bank of Ethiopia (NBE) has approved the appointment of Acting President of Dashen, Asfaw Alemu as president on Friday, May 15, 2015, Addis Fortune reported.

The former president, Berhanu Woldeselassie and Vice president for resources and Facilities Management, Abebe Teklu has resigned on April 3, 2015 and March 30, 2015 respectively.

Asfaw was the Vice president for Operations Management under the presidency of Berhanu and was appointed Acting President since April 3, 2015. Prior to the position of Vice President, Asfaw had served as Corporate Planning and Management Head and Credit Manager.

Before coming to Dashen, Asfaw has served in Agricultural and Development Bank, Canadian Physicians for Aid and Relief, GTZ (now GIZ), Save the Children and other Non-Governmental Organizations. He worked at Wegagen Bank and Unity University.

After examining the qualifications of Asfaw, the Dashen Board accepted his presidency and sent an approval request to the NBE on May 1, 2015.

Then, NBE two weeks later sent a letter of approval to the Chairman of the Board of Dashen Bank on Friday, May 15, 2015. The coming Wednesday, the Board admitted Asfaw as the new President.

The Board appointed Getnet Desie as Acting Vice President of Resource and Facilities and Hailu Bulbula as Acting Vice President of the Operations Management.

In the 2013/14 budget year, Dashen has gained a profit of Birr 606.7 million, making the highest profit among private banks in Ethiopia’s private banking sector.
