Ethiopia’s First Herbicide Factory to Start Production

Ethiopia’s first herbicide factory, which is owned by Adame Tulu Pesticide Processing S.C, is to commence production, on June 2015, Addis Fortune reported.

The factory is located on 3.4 hectares of land in Butajira Town and Birr worth 27 million has been invested for construction, machinery acquisition and installation.

Chinese company, Tianjin Bohai Chemical Industry Group Corporation, is to provide for the chemicals and chemical processing recipe for the production of the herbicide called 2,4-D (2, 4- Dichlorophenoxy acetic acid).

Adame Tulu will distribute the herbicide in Ethiopia with the brand name Ethio 24-D. The 24-D is used for weed control on various crops such as teff, sugar cane and wheat, Simeneh Altaye, CEO of Adame Tulu Pesticide Processing S.C. said.

The Company currently produces insecticides to prevent the spread of yellow fever in Ziway.

Adame Tulu is the sole producer of various insecticide and fungicide chemicals in the country.
