Ethiopia Seeks Turkish Companies to Invest in Power Generation

eepco-logoEthiopia wants Turkish companies to invest in the business of power generation and transmission line projects, Ethiopian Electric Power (EEP) unveiled.

Ethiopian delegation has concluded a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with four Turkish companies during its business and investment visit in Turkey to join the energy generation and transmission, according to The Reporter.

Azeb Asnake, Chief Executive Officer of Ethiopia Electric Power told The Reporter, Turkish businesses have been conferred with a presentation on the government’s target on energy sector in the coming five years on Ethio-Turkish Business to Business meeting at Sheraton Addis on Wednesday, May 6, 2015. 24 Turkish companies have attended the meeting along with members of Istanbul Electrical, Electronics, machinery and ICT Exporters Association.

As to the CEO, Turkish investors are advised to commence on power generation projects beyond the capacity of 500MW electricity.

Power losses in the process of distribution and transmission are usually alleged by the government of Ethiopia as one of the dominant factors for power interruptions. The loss is seen in transmission between source of supply and points of distribution.

Losses in the national grid have climbed to 20 percent in 2008, which is much higher than the international average of 13 percent, according to some studies.

Ethiopia’s current power generation capacity is 2268MW.
