Ethiopian Roads Authority to Inaugurate 69 KM Road

Ethiopian Roads Authority (ERA) is to inaugurate 69 kilometer road project, according to Addis Fortune.

The road project, which costs one billion Birr, is part of Zarima-Adiarkay-Shire road-upgrading project and joins Mytsebri and Shire. The road links Amhara Regional State with Tigray Regional State.

The consultancy and contract supervision of the project have been undertaken by Sheladia Associates Inc, Ethio Infra Engineering Plc, and Hi-tech Engineering Plc.

The construction contract was awarded to the Ethiopian Roads Construction Corporation (ERCC) in 2011 to complete upgrading the road to asphalt concrete level. On January 2015, ERCC completed the road.

The road has a width of seven meters in rural towns and 10 meters to 19 meters width in urban areas. The project also involves a 10.8 kilometers drainage system.

The total road coverage of Ethiopia in 2014 had reached 100,000 kilometers, of these 80 percent was gravel and situated in rural areas.

ERA expects the total road network in Ethiopia to reach 136,044 kilometers in 2015.
