Ministry of Mines and Civil Society Organization (CSO) held a discussion on how to create transparency in Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI), on April 28, 2015, Ethiopian News Agency reported.

Minister of Mines, Alemu Sime during the discussion said EITI is an international strategy that the government works collectively with companies engaged in exploration of minerals and Civil Society Organization.

As to Alemu, transparency with regard to the revenues owed to the government by the companies engaged in the sector will secure the benefits of citizens.

Eyasu Yimer, Civil Society Organization Representative in Multi Stakeholders Group (MSG) said the discussion is to see where we are now in enforcing the initiative nationally.

When Ethiopia acquires full membership of the EITI, transparency could be created in the sector and in return the trusts thresh hold among government, citizens, companies will rise, he added.
