Ethiopia: Federal Auditor General and Deputy Appointed

Ethiopia’s federal legislature, House of Peoples’ Representatives, approved the appointment of Gemechu Dubiso Godana as Federal Auditor General and Gedam Mandefro Abate as his deputy. Both Gemechu and Gedam were appointed by the Prime Minister.

The new Auditor General has worked as the General Manager of 'Oromia Credit & Saving Share Company (OCSSCO) from 1997 until now. Prior to this he worked as Head of Audit and Inspection Service at Oromia Trade Bureau.

During his time as the General Manager of OCSSCO, he developed as well as designed credit and savings delivery system and operational procedures of the firm.

Gemechu attended Addis Ababa University (AAU) where he earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Accounting. He furthered his study by attending Glasgow Caledonian University for his graduate studies where he studied Financial Management.

His deputy, Gedam, on the other hand worked at Bahir Dar University for more than five years. She is still serving as the Dean for College of Business and Economics at Bahir Dar University.

She has an Advanced Degree in Marketing Management from AAU and a Masters in Business Administration from the same University.
