One of Ethiopia’s wind farms that are under construction, Adama II wind farm, is expected to be completed and start generating 153 megawatt in June. The project is being carried out an outlay of USD 345 million.

So far 77 turbines have been installed and out of these turbines 20 of them have started generating electricity. These 20 turbines have a capacity of 1.5 megawatt, resident engineer Tahgot EndeMariam explained.

He furthered installation work of 24 turbines will be completed in June.

The project was commenced two years ago. Now it has reached 90 percent completion rate. upon completion the project will have a total of 102 turbines out of which, three have been on trial since October 2014.

The entire project is an extension work of Adama I wind farm which has an installed capacity of 51 megawatt.

It is said the project will power industries in Adama City and the city’s vicinities.7

Ethiopia so far managed to generate a total of 171 megawatts of power from Adama and Ashegoda wind farms. The two farms have installed capacity of 51 megawatt and 120 megawatt respectively. When Adama II starts generating power in its full capacity it is expected to take the country’s wind power generation to 324 megawatt.
