Ethiopian Documents Authentication Service Goes Online

The Documents Authentication and Registration Office said that it would introduce online attorney registration for clients through its official website as of this week. The scheme is scheduled to be launched tomorrow.

Until now clients had to visit the notary office for the authentication of legal documents. It is expected that the new registration management system will do away with the necessity of such visits except for notarisation.

The office is installing the online registration system in all of its branches.

Last fiscal year, the office opened three new branches in Addis Ababa, and it is planning to three branches in the current fiscal year. Currently, the office operates nine branch offices including the Dire Dawa office.

The office provided services to 618,121 clients between July 2010 and June 2011, which is close to 108 percent of its projection and registered over 64 percent growth during the 2009/10 fiscal year.

It handled 326,318 cases, nine percent above the target and it grew by 31 percent compared with growth in the last fiscal year.

In the current fiscal year, the Documents Authentication and Registration Office is planning to earn 114 million birr from stamp sales, duty and service charges.
