Ethiopia: Bank of Abyssinia Got a Chairman

The central bank of Ethiopia, National Bank of Ethiopia (NBE), approved the candidate for the chairman position of Abyssinia Bank’s board.

The newly appointed chairman, Meseret Taye, has been in the banking industry since 1972, which is also the time when he graduated from the Commercial School of Addis Ababa. Meseret replaced Mehari Alemayehu, who served the bank for the past three years as the board chairman. Mehari was also member of the board for six years.

“The challenge in my period was the improvement of service provision and normalizing the non-performing loans as well as increasing the paid-up capital,” Mehari explained.

According to Fortune, in addition to the diploma he has from Commercial School, Meseret has attended Addis Ababa University (AAU) and secured a degree in Economics and Political Science in 1981.

Mesert started his banking carrier at the then Addis Bank as a clerk.
