Ethiopia: Mamo Kacha to Build Two Hotels

Mamo Kacha is going to develop two hotels in Ethiopia after joining hands with the UK based Collier International and the hotels will be rated 4.5 to five stars.

Mamo Kacha is a family owned as well as run business and it is named after the well known business tycoon Mamo Yenberberu.

Managing director of Mamo Kacha, Yenberberu Mamo (Abbey), noted the company is intending to build the first hotel on a 2,300 square meters which is located in close to African Union headquarters and owned by the company. The land, according to The Reporter, was inherited from their late father.

Collier is currently conducting a feasibility study which is expected to be finalized in a couple of months, Abbey explained. In addition to this, the UK based firm is also working on the architectural designs and necessary details the hotels need.

Mamo Kacha and Collier started their relationship during the 2014 Africa Hotel Investement Forum (AHIF) which was held here in Ethiopia, according to Abbey.

The construction of the hotel is projected to be completed by early 2018. According to Abbey, though it is too early to talk about the financial details of the project, the company is set to invest the required sum as the hospitality industry has become lucrative.

The second hotel, a special boutique hotel, is planned to be erected at Yeka sub city on a plot of land where the family owns a property constructed over it. This Hotel is most likely to be run by brands such as Hilton Worldwide or Sheraton Group, Abbey explained.

Mamo Kacha family is known for investing and running different businesses in Ethiopia and US. It was established 75 years ago.

Abbey’s brother Eyo (Joe) Mamo, is a known gas station mogul in the United States of America, owner and CEO of Capitol Petroleum Group, which according to the newspaper controls 42 percent of Washington DC’s gas stations.
