Ethiopia and Turkey to Boost Trade Volume to USD 500 Million

Ethiopia and Turkey concluded agreements to increase the annual trade volume between the two countries to half a billion USD.

Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Haile Mariam Desalegn and Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan discussed bilateral as well as multilateral issues in Addis Ababa. They also signed a cooperation protocol on the areas of science and technology.

During a press release at the Ethioppia – Turkish Business Forum, the Turkish President explained the two countries will work to make Nejashi Mosque a top tourist destination. We must increase the trade volume between Turkey and Ethiopia to USD 500 million as soon as possible, he furthered.

Ethiopia’s premier on his side called Turkish investor to also engage in power generation projects.

The Business Forum had 80 Turkish businesses as its participants and they discussed on how they can invest in Ethiopian businesses. Hailemariam on his part explained to the business tycoons on the opportunities his country offers. He underscored the government is committed to assist Turkish investors that are willing to work with Ethiopia.

The two countries have also concluded cooperation protocol to work together in technology as wel as science. This protocol is on its part expected to allow Ethiopia to build its capacity in the matter. Turkey on the other hand will help Ethiopia in the setting up and organizing industrial zones.

In related news, Addis Ababa University conferred the Degree of Doctor of Humane Letters Honoris causa for the Turkish President. The University bestowed the Doctoral Degree upon the President for the efforts it made to fight terrorism and his contribution to development.

During the summit 80 Turkish investors expressed their interest to participate in electronics, agriculture minerals, solar power generation and other sectors. Currently there are activities being carried out in order to setup an all Turkish industrial zone in Ethiopia.
