Ethiopia: Etur Textile to Start Exporting to Europe and America

Etur Textile, the Turkish textile manufacturer, is going to start exporting its products to Europe and America after its trial export to the two North African nations, Algeria and Morocco, went successful.

Adil Basoglu, board member and executive director of Etur, explained that the company has commenced full production and it will soon start exporting its products to larger overseas markets.

He furthered the aim of the company is to become the biggest exporter in the nation. “We have no clear response for that since we know we are paying them relatively higher salary,” Basoglu said.

He also commented on the high turnover of employees the Turkish manufacturer is facing and blamed it for work related accidents in the main production units. “We have no clear response for that since we know we are paying them relatively higher salary,” he noted.

Basoglu also complained about dust blowing from the gravel road that is adjacent to the plant and said it is affecting business in the production unit. “We have told the city administration so many times but no quick response yet,” he said.

Currently Ethiopia is home for 110 textile companies of which majority of them are owned by Turkish, Chinese and Indians. The export of the sector has been growing by 28 percent year on year during the 2012/2013 fiscal year.
