Ethiopia: Sisay Gemechu Became the New CEO for Ethiopian Industrial Park Development Corporation

Sisay Gemechu, State Minister for Industry, is now appointed as the new chief executive officer (CEO) of the Ethiopian Industrial Park Development Corporation (IPDC).

Signed by the Prime Minister, Haile Mariam Dessalegn, an appointment letter sent to Sisay read; “Effective December 10, 2014, you are assigned as CEO of Industrial Park Development Corporation with the rank of state minister’’.

It was 2 years ago in December 2012 Sisay became the State Minister for Industry and joined Tadesse Haile. Later Mebrahtu Meles joined (PhD) joined the two as a third State Minister to alleviate the widened load within the Ministry.

In his stay at the Ministry, Sisay was responsible for the development of industry zones while Tadesse was tasked with the development of textile and leather sectors.Mebrhatu on the other hand is in charge of regulating agro-processing and the chemical sector.

Back in 2012 the Federal Government approved the establishment of the Ethiopian Industrial Zones Development Corporation (IZDC) yet reestablished the Corporation this year as Ethiopian Industrial Park Development Corporation (IPDC).

Sisay went to Addis Ababa University for its undergraduate studies and has a BSC in applied chemistry. He also has an MSC in Organic Chemistry from University of Punjabi, India and MA in Transformational Leadership and Change Management from University of Greenwich in the United Kingdom (UK).

His CV shows he worked at different positions; from junior expert to team leader in Oromia Sate Industry Bureau from 1995 to 2006. From the year 2007 to 2010 he was the State’s Capacity Building Bureau Deputy Head. Then was then assigned as State Minister of Industry, Agriculture Policy and Plan Execution & Monitoring in the Office of Prime Minister from 2010 to 2012.

It is a great opportunity to me as the government is giving more emphasis to the development of industrial parks by considering it a source of generating foreign currency from export, said Sisay.
