Construction of the highway linking Ethiopia with Kenya is expected to be completed by the end of the year 2015.

Ukur Yattani, Governor of Marsabit County, commented on the matter saying the 505 kilometer road, which stretches from Isiolo-Marsabit-Moyale, is currently 60 percent over and that work is well in progress.

“Construction is ongoing. By the end of next year, we will have connected Addis Ababa to Nairobi on tarmac road, a thing that will change the economy of this place,” he furthered.

The project is said to consume U.S. $ 517 Million and it is financed by the African Development Bank, the European Union and the Kenya Government.

According to Yattani, who is the Governor of the largest county in Kenya, the road is going to ease travel from Addis Ababa, capital of Ethiopia, to Nairobi. He furthered the trek use to take four days but the road is going to shorten this to one day.

The Governor explained there will be new petrol stations, lodges, cottages, banks and other institutions following the new road. He called it “a game changer”.
