Ethiopia: European Firms Awarded With 2 Billion Birr Contract

For the purpose expanding Addis Ababa’s sewerage treatment, the City Administration concluded a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Actor and Denis, companies from Greece and Belgium.

The agreement was signed by the directors of the companies and Aweqe Hailemariam, chief of Addis Ababa Water Sewerage Authority.

Actor’s contract has 830 Million Birr value while Denis’ will be awarded 710 Million Birr. The two firms are expected to construct an 18 Kilometers sewerage network at the Akaki Sewerage Treatment Station.

Morison, a Canadian firm, on the other hand is awarded the supervisory work of the project. This firm made the design work of the project three years ago.

The project is scheduled to be completed in 18 months time. Upon completion it is said, the station’s sewerage treatment capacity will increase to 10,000 cubic meters, adding 3,500 cubic meters to the current content. This in turn will rise the city’s sewerage service capacity by 62pc.
