Ethiopia: Bangladesh Company to Establish Textile and Garment Factory in Mekele

dblThe Bangladesh based, BDL Group, is set to build textile and garment factory at an outlay of 765 Million Birr in the Tigray State capital, Mekele City.

The firm concluded an agreement with the Mekele City Administration and also received 68 hectares of land on which is going to build the factory.

BDH’s Chairperson, Abdul Wahed, said his company decided to invest in Ethiopia after looking at the business and investment opportunities the country possess.

He added the construction of the factory will commence in two months time and production in nine. The factory is going to create job opportunities for 3,000 people.

Wahed furthered the Group will make additional investments in the coming two years.

Mekele’s Mayor Tewelde-Birhan Tesfalem on his part explained the establishment of the factory will enhance the country’s efforts to improve companies engaged in the manufacturing sector.

Farmers that supply their products to the industry will also benefit, he explained.

BDL was established in 1991 and it currently owns facilities for spinning, fabric knitting, dyeing and finishing, garments, washing, packaging and printing. The Group is a diversified as well as integrated knit garments manufacturing and composite.

According to Ethiopian News Agency, BDL is an export oriented composite knit garments and textiles manufacturing industry in Bangladesh.
