Ethiopia: Local Contractors Awarded 2.2 Billion Birr Road Projects

Two local contractors concluded a 2.2 Billion Birr road projects with Ethiopian Roads Authority (ERA) on Saturday, October 4, 2014.

The contractors are Marco General Contractor Trading Plc and Sunshine Construction Company. Representing ERA the Authority’s Director General ZaidWeldegebriel, concluded two contracts with Samuel Taffesse, owner of Sunshine and Elias Mamo, General Manager of Macron Construction.

Macron is going to construct a 100 Kilometers road that will link West Arsi Zone and Bale Zone in Oromia State. The outlay for this project is stipulated on the contract to be 1.25 Billion Birr and scheduled to be completed in three years.

The other road project is going to be carried out by Sunshine and the firm expected to construct the Morocho, Dimtu and Bitena road project at an outlay of 995.01 Million Birr. The road is said to be 60.8 Kilometers and expected to be delivered to ERA in two years time.

During the signing ceremony it was disclosed the Morocho, Dimtu and Bitena road project will be linked with the Addis Ababa-Mombasa road corridor which will ultimately be linked with the Addis Ababa-Mombasa road corridor and ease the possible traffic congestion on the road.

It was further noted the design for the second phase of the project, which is a 43.3 Kilometers road project covering Morocho, Dimtu, BitenaSodo, will be completed in the near future.

The Authority also noted, upon completion the new road project AdabaAngtu will reduce the distance from Addis Ababa to Angtu by 400 Kilometers by using the DoloMena route.

The two local construction firms have previously completed and delivered road projects in Ethiopia. They are also currently working on some road projects too.
